  2. I'm Lauren Romeo, and I will be a sophomore this coming year. I love skiing, theater, running, and many other things! This summer I am looking forward to relaxing and possibly going to Virginia. I'm interested in AP US Government and Politics because I want to go into law and then politics when I am older, and this interesting class will certainly help me in my career. My favorite president is definitely Abraham Lincoln, as he was a truly inspiring figure who stood up for what he believed in and helped in the elimination of racism in America. My favorite current politician is Florida Senator Marco Rubio. I strongly agree with many of his ideas about how our country should be run, and feel that he is a good figure to represent or country as a potential president. I am extremely excited about taking this class, and I am looking forward to the fall!

  3. Hello everyone,
My name is Amber Marin. I'm going to a be a senior next year. My hobbies are kind of weird compared to most others but the normal ones include reading, writing short fictional works and hanging out with my friends. The weirder of my interests have a lot to do with Science Fiction and Fantasy like Star Trek and Lord of the Rings as well as a huge list of other things. I'm interested in taking AP Government and Politics because I want to go into law. I do prefer business law over political law but this seems like a good way to explore the latter and really get a sense of what I'm walking into. My favorite president would have to be Nixon. I mean did he really think he was going to get away with Watergate??? Plumbers aren't spies/ burglars they're barely plumbers, I can't even. He just saw what he wanted and didn't really care about this "checks and balances" bologna that the US Government was founded on. In my opinion politicians are just sell outs to their political parties as well other politicians. The best way I can put it is with the words of a good friend of mine, "It's the corruption among politicians and the stratification of our parties that it messing up the government" -Scooch Saucier 2014 folks.
Can't wait for class to start in the fall this is about to get interesting.
By the way I have this class period 4! Who else does?

  4. Hello, I'm Ethan Pernal. I will be a Junior next year. I enjoy playing board games and video games, between the two of those I spend a large amount of my time. I also thoroughly enjoy the Daily Show and the Colbert Report on Comedy Central. I have no plans for over the summer. I find politics interesting and entertaining. My favorite president is FDR, as he helped define and shape modern America. My current favorite politician would probably either have to be Chris Christie or Harry Reid. I am definitely more liberal, but Christie has always been appealing to me

  5. Hello, my name is Kevin Jacobson and I will be a Junior next year. I enjoy hiking, camping and the outdoors in general. I have no vacation plans but usually work during the summer. I am interested in AP US Gov. because I would like a future career possibly in law enforcement. Abraham Lincoln is my favorite President because he changed America forever and without his controversial societal changes we would not be who we are today. I have no favorite politician because politicians usually just try advancing their own goals and have no real interest in us except for re-election. Who else is in Period 7?

  6. Hello, my name is Carrigan Costello and I am going to be a sophomore next year. My hobbies are softball and running. This summer I'm going to Myrtle Beach with my softball team, and I am going to Martha's Vineyard. I am interested in taking AP US Government and Politics because I want to go into law. My favorite president is Abraham Lincoln because of his leadership during the Civil War to end slavery. Lincoln knew of the risks and the amount of American life lost during the Civil War but never backed down from what was right. My favorite current politician is Richard Blumenthal because he has recently been pushing stricter gun reforms, which is something that I also strongly believe in.

  7. Hello, I am Gilbert Michaud and I will be a sophomore next year. I like hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming and playing alto and baritone saxophones. I will be going to Cape Cod, New York State and camping in Vermont this Summer. I am interested in AP Us Gov. because I am interested to learn more about the government and extend my mind about governmental procedures. My favorite U.S. president is Thomas Jefferson because he helped out a lot in giving us the freedom we have today. Also, he truly believed in the words the Declaration of Independence say. He once even said, " I hold it that a little rebellion every now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical." He truly believed in freedom and wanted everyone to freely exercise their rights. It was this kind of determination that made him one of America's greatest presidents. My favorite politician is Rob Sampson because he fights for our rights and he believes in freedom.

  8. Hi, I'm Craig Kazemekas, I like alot of things, during the summer so far I dont have any big plans other than a weekend at block island and going up to rhode island every now and then, but i work as a lifeguard as a summer job at holiday hill and lake compounce, I took ECE history last year and love social studies in general so I decided to take this course. My favorite president if I had to pick would have to be Clinton, I'm mostly a new democrat and he had his way economically that led to the economy of the early 2000's. Currently I don't have a favorite politician, but I'm interested in who is gonna be running for 2016, I think Hillary Clinton can win it but its still too soon to tell.

  9. Hello, I'm Chloe Chance, and I mainly enjoy spending my time singing, running, reading, and swimming. I don't have much planned this summer, but I will go camping, just like I do every year. I am interested in taking AP US Government and Politics because social studies is one of my favorite subjects, and I thought it would be interesting to learn more about our government and become more involved in current events. My favorite president is Franklin Roosevelt because during the Great Depression he gave people hope and reassured them that he would do everything in his power to restore the country. My favorite politician is Dianne Feinstein because she works hard to help the environment, whether it is increasing economy standards for vehicles or protecting desert land in California.

  10. Hello, I’m Alyse DeLuca. In my free time and I participate in indoor track, play softball and watch football. This summer I’m looking forward to relaxing by the beach and hanging out with my friends. I’m interested in AP Gov because I do not know much about politics and want to find out more. I like that the class involves current events and social studies is one of my favorite subjects. My favorite president is Thomas Jefferson because he was a well-rounded guy, not only serving as a great president but also a writer, inventor and an architect. Also, it’s interesting that he was a very quiet man with few public speeches but still had the ability to serve as an exceptional leader. As previously mentioned, I do not follow or know much about politics; therefore I currently do not have a favorite politician but am looking forward to acquiring one.

  11. Hi, I'm Kayla Mayo and I am going to be a sophomore next year. I enjoy playing soccer, reading and visiting my grandparents. This summer, I'm going to be playing in a soccer league for the high school and in July, I'm going camping in Cape Cod with my family and friends. The reason I am taking AP US Government and Politics is because I am fascinated with politics and the way our country works, yet I have very little knowledge of it. I am hoping this class will allow me to understand the seriousness of certain decisions made in the government and see how they impact the entire country. My favorite president is John F. Kennedy. JFK was an inspiring president considering how greatly he effected our nation in such a short period of time and at his young age. He was a large supporter of the equal rights and he inspired Americans to help make the country prosperous. Currently, I do not have an favorite politician. I don't know many politicians and as I was scrolling through my peers' responses to see which politicians that they favor, I found that I have never even heard of some of them. By the end of the year, I would like to know more about politics and maybe I will end up finding my favorite politician

  12. Hey, Im Zach Lepore and next year Im going to be a
Sophomore. This summer Im going to be camping a lot and playing tennis. I decided to take this class because as of now, I have very limited knowledge on our government and i will like to change that. This is because I thinks its very important for everyone to have knowledge of our government because, well, we live here and its what we live under. Also, I want to use this experience of taking a challenging class to help me with further education. As for my favorite politician, I don't have one because of the fact that I just don't know very many and have never really payed attention to politics in the past. My favorite president is George Washington because I admire his courage to take the reins on our country even though he wasn't confident in himself when he was offered the job after the war had ended. He served as a great leader during the revolutionary war, and continued to do so afterwards, as president. Overall, I hope this upcoming school year will turn me into a better student and give me the very important knowledge of how our government works.

  13. Hi everyone, My name is Lewis Hobbs and i will be a senior next school year. In my spare time i'm usually at a skatepark or hanging out with my friends. This summer i plan on going to Vermont with my family and going to cape cod with one of my friend's family and other things. I decided to take this class because i am very interested in government and i enjoyed civics and criminology and i would like to expand my knowledge of our government and law. I don't follow politics as much as i follow law, but my favorite president would have to be Truman because he had the courage to take on Soviet Russia and all of the other countries they had taken over with his containment policy which had been used my not only him, but 7 other presidents after. Like i said, i dont follow politics much so i probably cant even name more than 3 politicians, but hopefully i will have a favorite one by the end of the school year.

  14. hello my name is Eddie Parenti. I enjoy playing soccer and football. love going to the beach and working on my car. I don't think I'm going anywhere on vacation yet. Who knows?! I am interested in ap gov because I really enjoyed civics and Balanda was always telling me it is like that class but on steroids. my favorite president has to George Washington because he started our country and nothing would be like this if it wasn't for him. I currently don't have a favorite politician but if I had to say rob Samson because he came to my door and seemed like a cool dude.

  15. Hi my name is Emily Scarcella. I enjoy competitive cheerleading, swimming, and running. I am planning on going to the beach and maybe Texas this summer. I am interested in AP Gov because social studies and politics has always been intriguing to me. It has always come very easy to me and I have always been able to understand and grasp concepts in this area quickly. My favorite president was Calvin Coolidge. He was known as "Silent Cal" because he said very little. However, he was still able to lead an entire country, which is very astonishing. Coolidge also was able to reduce government spending and cut taxes which is a very difficult accomplishment. I don't currently have a favorite politician and unfortunately don't know about many politicians. But throughout this class, I would like to learn more about our country's government and political life.

  16. Hi, my name is Joe Daddona and I like swimming, being social, and solving problems. This summer I am going to Cape Cod for a week and maybe a few other camping places. Ap gov caught my eye because since I've learned and debated in middle school I've been intrigued in all government types. Though I may not know many political terms I hope to learn most of them next school year. My favorite president is John Adams because his involvement in the Constitution was remarkable. On days where almost no one was in the room where the constitution was being made, John Adams was usually there. My favorite politician is Chris Murphy (maybe a little bias) because I've had personal experiences with him. His involvement with the people is astounding. At a walk for Alzheimer's he and I had a talk about how children can change things too. I hope to learn many more politicians throughout this class!

  17. Hi my name is Susan Naseri and I'll be a junior next year. This summer, I might be travelling to Europe, and going to Florida. In my free time, I like to read and run. I'm interested in AP Gov because I want to pursue a career into law and I figured this course would help me with that. My favorite president was John F Kennedy. In only 2 years of presidency, he took action to fix the economy and worked to achieve equality amongst all citizens. I don't have a current favorite politician because I don't really follow politics but hopefully, throughout the year, that will change.

  18. Hi my name is Zamzama Gafar and I will be a senior next year. I enjoy playing volleyball and track. In my spare time I like to exercise, read, shop, and spend time with my friends. Something interesting about me is that my family and I travel quite often, I was born in New York moved to New Jersey then to Las Vegas and ended up in Wolcott. I'm interested in AP gov & politics because throughout my school years I've always wanted to take a class that involved government & politics and taking Civics was one of my favorite courses, I want to learn more about how our country works today and it would give me a better understanding and experience. My favorite president is Truman, it was tough for him to become president after FDR died, and he really helped contribute to end WWII, he wasn't afraid to stand up for his beliefs. As of now I don't have a favorite politician, but I hope during the school year I will find out who my favorite politician is.

  19. (Sorry for the late comment) Hi my name is Ryan Robert and I will be a sophomore next year. My hobbies include basketball and track, and I will be participating in a number of basketball camps and leagues over the summer, as well as continuing to improve and get faster for track. A weird habit of mine is that i collect sneakers and sell and trade them in order to make profit. I am interested in AP Gov. and Politics because even though I don't have the full and complete understanding of how it all works, I am interested in the general concepts behind it. I don't know exactly what field i want to enter when i grow up because i tend to be interested in almost everything, but i definitely find government/law to be one of my top options because of the influence my dad has on me, being a political junkie himself. I'm looking forward to getting an in-depth education of our government, and feel the difficulty of the course will help prepare me for my future. If I had to pick my favorite president, it would be Theodore Roosevelt because of his interesting life growing up as a "cowboy" and rancher, but still being interested in many other things including boxing and of course government and politics. I also like the way he led the country in general, specifically foreign policy, and helped end monopoly businesses. As far as my favorite politician goes, I don't have one like what most other students said. But I do have the views of a fiscal conservative, so my favorite politician would be along those lines. Overall I'm looking forward to the class and the class debates that will come with it.

  20. Hi, my name is Sarah Threlfall. I am going to be a senior next year. I enjoy volleyball and track. My hobbies include reading, hiking, and hanging out with my friends and family. This summer I am looking forward to going on vacation to South Carolina and Florida. I am interested in AP Government and Politics because I love history and want to know more about what is going on in America and around the world today. My father always said, know what is going on in your government because a voice unspoken is one not heard. Therefore, the current events we learn will be important to me, so that I can have a better understanding of things going on in the government and around the world. My favorite president would have to be President George W. Bush. This is because of the way he dealt with the worst terrorist attack on the United States had ever seen (9/11) and one of the worst natural disasters America had ever seen, Hurricane Katrina. President Bush reassured the American people that all possible measures to help these situations, would be taken. Also, he assured that all enemies of America, foreign or domestic, would hear from us and that we would be relentless in our pursuit of justice. As for my favorite politician, I currently do not have one. I am looking forward to this class and all the debits that will occur.

  21. Hi, my name is Ally Hickey. I am going to be a junior next year. I play soccer, basketball and run track for the school. I also like to hang out with friends and watch movies. This summer I am going to Ocean City, Maryland for a week on vacation and I am playing in a summer league for the school for soccer and basketball. Last year I took the Civics class and I was very interested in all of the laws in our country and the processes it takes to become a law so I took this class. My favorite president is Abraham Lincoln because even though he knew that trying to free the slaves would cause major conflict in the country he continued with his plan because he knew it would be the best for the country in the long run, making men equal as the Constitution promised. He also had the courage to go into war with the country in order to keep it together and functioning. My favorite current politician is Rob Sampson because when we met him on the Capitol trip it seemed like he took an interest in what we had to say and was trying to do the best he could in order to keep us in Wolcott happy with the way our government is working.

  22. Hello, my name is Christie Allison and i am going into my sophomore year. I like playing tennis, cooking, and hanging out with friends. This summer I look forward to being able to relax and go to the beach often ! I am very interested in this course because I realize that government will play a key role in our lives in the near future (voting, jobs, ect.). Therefore, having a greater understanding of our government and how it works, will really help us in the long run. My favorite president would be Abraham Lincoln because his actions were the beginning of a free, liberated America with rights to all. Lincoln helped America take a huge step towards the abolishment of discrimination and slavery against the African American population. If Abraham Lincoln hadn't been so courageous in his actions against slavery then I am positive that America would not be in the place it is today. I am both grateful for his actions and inspired by his courage. I currently do not have a favorite politician. I am hopeful that through this course I can grow to admire one enough for them to be my favorite.

  23. Hi I'm Julia Audibert and I'm going to be a junior. Some hobbies I have are dance and I like to run. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends and watching movies with my sister. This summer I mostly plan to relax on the beach and I am going to Spain! the trip is with the school and I am so excited! I'm interested in taking Ap Gov because for a while I considered being a politician when I get out of college and it is simply something that interests me. My favorite president of the past is definitely George Washington This may be very original and common among most Americans, but even so, I think he was such an incredible leader and so many presidents after him felt the same way which is why I feel that he is such a great symbol for our country. My favorite present day politician, however, is our own state governor, Dan Malloy. This is because he has great progress with our state, for example, he increased the amount of CT residents that have quality health care an also did a lot of work for the employees of CT which I greatly admire.

  24. Hi, I'm Brian barker and I am going to be a sophomore next year. Some hobbies that I have are playing basketball and working out. This summer I am really looking forward to going to Cape Cod with my family and just generally spending time with my family and friends. I was intrigued by AP Gov because when I go to college I want to look into majoring in Government and politics. My favorite president is definitely Abraham Lincoln because of his efforts to end slavery and discrimination against African Americans.I felt that his steps in ending slavery were giant especially in his time when not many people agreed with him. I do not have a favorite politician currently because I do not know enough about any of them yet , but I am looking forward to extending my knowledge of government and politics through this class.

  25. Hey guys, I'm Hannah Critelli and I will be a junior this year. I am a dancer outside of school and I am at the studio 3-4 days a week. I do things from teaching dance classes, assisting them and even taking them as a student. I absolutely love it. I have a very busy schedule but I manage to make it work. I am interested in this class because I want to become a lawyer when I get older. My favorite president was JFK because he was a very family oriented guy and made everybody feel special. He was loved by every citizen and he was an overall great guy. I know this class will be difficult but I'm up for the challenge and can't wait to start!
