Tony Stewart Hits and Kills Another Racer

This past Saturday during a 25-lap race in New York, racer Kevin Ward Jr. gets hit by Tony Stewart on the 14th lap and spins out.  After being hit, he got out of his car and began pointing in Stewart’s direction. Seconds later Ward is hit by Stewart’s car and brought to a hospital where he died. I chose this because it is not something you see very often in the news. Yes, there will be an accident where a racer gets hurt or one where he dies but there are not many where he is the one who gets physically hit by the car and dies. It makes you think whether or not the other racer did it purposely or not.
Question:
Do you feel this investigation should go on as an on track crash with or without criminal chargers? Why or why not?

  1. There should be no criminal charges against Tony Stewart in this investigation. It's a tragedy that this man's life was taken but it was his fault that he got hit. After crashing, Ward got out of his car that was not on fire and had no threat to him at all. When a driver gets out of his car, he is giving up all the protection it offers him and he purposely made himself vulnerable to getting hit. Also, Stewart didn't swerve over in Ward's direction at all and seemed to be driving in the normal direction he would have if he were normally racing, which he was. It was Ward who approached the vehicle and put himself at danger and Stewart shouldn't be held accountable for that. It's a shame that Ward left the world in an accident like this but there should not be any criminal charges for it.

  2. From what I have seen in the video, the driver that tony hit broke one of the rules of track racing. You are not supposed to get out of the vehicle until the yellow flags are up and the crew has arrives to remove the vehicle from the track and continue racing. This is surely a tragedy for the family of Mr. Ward however criminal charges will not be pressed on Stuart but the association that hosted the race should be more strict with drivers getting out of cars and if they do not impose penalties the association could be fined
