Obama and the Barber Theory
In my opinion, the Barber theory is a good way to analyze the presidents, especially of the past. On the other hand, in order to predict the residency of a certain man, the theory is not as effective because it is usually impossible to tell how a man will react under the immense pressure that comes with the job of the President. However, by using the Barber theory it is possible to analyze Obama's presidency, I disagree with Sarah about him being passive positive. I see him as passive aggressive. It is true that, as Kayla pointed out to Sarah, Obama tends to make many comments about prospering and the hope he has for the nation. However, I see this as him trying to get the people on his side because he really wants his approval ratings to be up. When he lost Congress to the Republicans he was truly hurt because he had thought the people had liked him. It is also evident that he is not passive but aggressive through how much he strives to achieve. He worked and worked to reform health care and to achieve his goals of ObamaCare. He tried many times to be bipartisan and when that was obviously not going to work, he continued trying in a way he saw would help him be successful. In the video we saw his advisors tell him how it was not looking great and yet he still went for what he wanted. This is, in my eyes, the traits of an aggressive president.
Although Obama is an aggressive president , this does not make him an effective president of the time. This is because in this time period Congress is very against the president. The only reason ObamaCare was passed without a single Republican vote was because it was a Democratic majority in Congress. from the beginning, the Republicans in Congress were completely against Obama and he was unable to properly use his Presidential powers and persuade them to work with him. Especially now that Republicans hold the majority of Congress, Obama is going to have an even harder time getting anything done or getting any support from them and in no way is this good for our nation. So, when the 2016 elections come around, I think that voters will be looking for another aggressive candidate that can get things done, but at the same time someone who shows the ability to work with Congress. This means being of the Republican seat can be a factor. Not only this, but I think the people will want to see someone who seems trustworthy because this way they will feel that the candidate will keep their ideals unlike Obama who ended up changing his original promises.
