Campaign Finance Reform

After watching the documentary and reading the article, it is clear that campaign finance reform is necessary in order to preserve the nation's democracy. Arguements can be made that the wealthy citizens do not have that much more of a say with examples of Sheldon Adelson and Karl Rove's losses of money in past elections. These examples show them as losers and not having as much of an influence as they could have. Although these are real example, the fact is that these situations are slim and the reality of it is that the wealthy do actually have an influential stance on today's politics. By giving money to certain candidates or "social welfare groups" these people are also making an investment which makes whomever they donate to feel obligated to their cause. The best way to solve this is through the solution of making a new legislation that attracts small donors. Through this candidates would receive amounts of money through taxpayers which allows for them to, in the end, focus more on the views and interests of the general population rather than the small amount of those that have the money to make an unfair difference. This way it even allows for the partisan gridlock to be passed. All in all, the need for campaign finance reform is great and the solution is that of a legislation that provides for the broader public interest. Photos
