What Makes A Campaign Ad Effective

Unfortunately no one has made any posts yet so I'll be going off of my own opinion, but maybe i will be of some help to everyone else. In my personal opinion the most element of a campaign add is the emotion put into the advertisements. This is mostly because of how the emotion allows the candidate to show they are relateable to the people. Through any positive emotion in their ads the candidate is connecting to the people by making them feel something about how they candidate can truly improve the nation and help the people in the best way possible. This way when they are in the booths the people see the name of this certain candidate and associate it with the hope and security that they felt while watching the ad. Not only this, but when there is negative emotion portrayed the same type of idea is anticipated, except it is meant as an attack against the opponent. By connecting a negative feeling with the opponent and showing how they will hurt the nation and the people, the people are most likely to vote against them because they do not get the right feeling from the opponent like they for the candidate. In order to get votes the best way to connect to the people is through emotion. This is shown best in the Clinton ad "Journey". In this ad Clinton talks of how he wants to help the people and provide service to the country that he loves. Through the images and the words he uses the viewer gets a true feeling of how great of a guy Clinton is and because the ad is so well done it is something they will most likely take into the voting booths with them.

  1. This ad always reminded me of the Reagan "Prouder, Better, Stronger" Ad...why do you think Clinton would want to copy that?
