What Makes A Campaign Ad Effective

As we have discussed in class, campaign ads have come a long way since the first ad for the Eisenhower campaign in 1952. Over time political ads have become both more expensive to make and more sophisticated in their message. However, what makes for an effective campaign ad?

Blog Post Assignment: What Makes A Campaign Ad Effective
  • Write a blog post that explains your criteria for judging the effectiveness of a campaign ad.
  • Use the information from class discussion, your rubric, and the ad themselves to support your post.
  • Posts must include specific ads as evidence to support your criteria.
Blogging Note:
When adding videos from livingroomcandidate.org please try to embed them into the blog post using the directions below, however, if you are having difficulty doing this you can simply use the link to the video instead.
  • Find a video from the website you would like to upload, like the windsurfing video from the Bush campaign in 2004.
  • Click the share button on the lower right of the video player.
  • Copy the embed code from the share window that pops out to the right of the video player.

  • Cut and paste the embed code into the blog post after switching the format from "compose" to "HTML" in the upper left hand corner.

(The video's embed code is circled in red.)

  • The video will appear in the blog post as it does below.

If you have questions let me know and happy blogging!
