Campaign Finance Reform

The documentary "Big Sky, Big Money" presents the obvious corruption in our campaign finance system and the need for reform. The Citizens United case turns the leak of money into a flood pertaining to the large contributions of soft money through the cooperation of SuperPACs and 501(c)(4)s as shown in the documentary. There are several proposals in the article "What's the Future for Campaign Finance Reform?" however I actually agree with Hannah in the notion that reform should not be made and the system can remain the way it is. In reality any reform taken will have little effect on the system and any drastic measures taken to fix the corruption will not function the way it's planned. An amendment at first would seem to be the most effective option for reform however as the article states it cannot be done with the requirements it takes along with the gridlock still in our politics. Also it is more likely the amendment will cause more problems and corruption rather than it resolving the ones we already have, if one follows the mantra "money will always find the leak." The attracting small donors and regulating the regulators solutions appear to be decent but both would show minimal result in reforming the system and as said before cause more issues. Therefore, no reform will truly satisfy the system and leaving it how it is seems to be the best option.

  1. Money will always find the leak...so don't worry about the leak?
